Southwest desert ripened from the seeds of the 80’s California Electronic & New Age Movement, Steve Roach is a Master of Ambient Music who has forged sound worlds with the spirit of his soul. With over 200 releases on physical and digital formats since 1982, his sonic and emotional imprint, much like Salvador Dali is everywhere in today’s world.

Portals & Spirals focuses on sequencer-based rhythms and melodic beds both new and familiar in the Roach universe. All of the usual analog, digital modular, and percussive friends are here. Created & Mixed in the moment in 2025, this release is propelled by its dramatic movement, urgent energy, and melodic resonance. Time is elastic, yet all is now. Enjoy the ride.

"There are phases in life where one can feel a peak passage is unfolding as your directly in it. Referred to as "being in zone", I call it the all is now moment - the front side of now. The ecstasy of these fully expanded present moment occurrences are experienced at many points in life, never to be repeated on any level as you are in it, and often never documented. Fleeting and ephemeral, this why we keep going for it... that perfect present moment of pure 100% engagement.

This experience is stored as a memory we can be recalled over time as it fades into our inventory of pinnacle moments. We can continue to draw from this as it often shapes who we are.. This could be riding a 100 wave in Hawaii, witnessing a sunset like never before or ever again that will gone forever in minutes, the stillness of an early morning after a dramatic desert thunderstorm.

These two 2025 Timehouse studio recording sessions over 2 days capture all of this and something well beyond. The energy of life itself and my compulsion to engage into this creative surrender and spontaneous willing of a live composition is fully alive here in these 2 long-form sonic soul journeys that continue to regenerate my passion and engagement into life's vital soundcurrents with every listening session.
